Surprise! I have a pretty big break here at school, so I figured I would just update while I’m waiting to go to my acting tech class. Luckily, there have been a lot of absent teachers this week so there’s less for me to talk about. And I also decided I’d be too busy/tired on Sunday to update anyway.
So Monday was so strange. It was the first day back at school since the break and I fell back into the routine right away. Tap was in the morning, it was odd having those shoes on again, but my muscle memory served me well. Then we started to talk about our assessments in December so we would know what to expect. After that class we had an ear training test, which was very ordinary. I don’t know how well I did, but I guess I’ll find out next week. Then later, in Shakespeare, I finally got up to do my monologue! I chose one of Olivia’s monologues from the first part of twelfth night. Apparently I had a good understanding of the text, which surprised me, and then he just told me to work on my breath support. I am really glad that I finally got up. Surprisingly I think this is my first Shakespeare monologue that I’ve actually worked on.
Then on Tuesday morning I had vocal tech, in which we just worked on Analyzing sheet music. Basically we were given a song (“Love, I Hear” from A Funny Thing Happened on the Way to the Forum) and we have to go through and circle all of the important musical terms and symbols that would help us sing the song. Forunately, I have done exercises like that before, so I understand what’s going on. Then rep lab was completely normal and the group presenting had Sondheim as their composer. It was so great! They had this funny concept about people being an asylum called the Sondheim Woods asylum and they periodically sang through a handful of great songs. It was very funny and I enjoyed it a lot.
Wednesday morning my jazz teacher was sick, so I got an extra ballet class. Yay! Later, in Improv we did some scatting improve, which I found surprisingly easy and fun. Chelsey and I had a great scatting conversation, which was so awesome. Then I sang “Bubbly” again in Pop, but the teacher seems to want me to sing harder songs, which is understandable. Pop makes me so nervous, because I honestly don’t think I sound good singing it. I might try to singing “Taking Chances” if I can get my confidence up. Voice and Text was the same as always, nothing too odd happened in that class.
I think that Thursday is super easy after the mornings. After a long morning of History and Stagecraft, I went to dance class feeling kind of defeated. I got to class and started to warm myself up, when one of the second years came in and told us the teacher was sick so class was cancelled. Some of the dancers, me included, stayed anyways and had our own short class. It was fun to just dance around and even do a bit of our own choreography. Then we had MVP, which we have been singing the same song for the third time. I signed up to go on Tuesday, so in the next update I’ll tell you how it goes and hopefully I’ll be able to tell you what song I’m singing next.
Other than Ballet, nothing has really happened today yet. I had a lovely Ballet class this morning, in which we also talked about what we were doing in assessments. Now I’m just waiting for my acting class to start. We’re supposed to work on viewpoints today so I’m pretty excited about that. I might write again this weekend, but if not, I’ll write again on Tuesday. Thank you guys for all your support and I’ll try to get back into the swing of writing these twice a week.
It’s the seventh Friday!!
